Church history 101

The Beehive House. One of the homes Brigham Young resided in . We brought Kaylee here to see what the pioneers did when they came into the valley. One of the interesting things we learned here was that Brigham encouraged the Saints to build their wagons with the finest wood knowing that they could be used to build beautiful furniture once they settled.

This is one of the boys' rooms. They were a little plainer than the girls' rooms. I really love the woodwork in all the rooms. The beds and tables and chairs are sooo much smaller than we have today. Actually, everything was smaller.

Speaking of smaller, this is the wedding dress of one of Brigham's youngest children, Clarrisa. Much of what we know of this home and the events that happened here was recorded by Clarrisa in her journals. This dress is sooo tiny, and her shoes were a size 3 1/2! Crazy to imagine that when I wear a size 8! Not to mention the size of clothes I carry on my amazon-sized frame! I wonder what size people will be in the year 2107 !!!

The woodwork in the house is all hand-carved. If you look close enough, you will notice all the details that were put into the home. Lots of symbols, too. Beehives, bees, sego lilies, and other symbols were everywhere in this home.

This is the music room. Again, more ornate woodwork, beautiful furniture, draperies and many instruments to entertain guests.

This is one of the girls' rooms. They seem even nicer than the boys' rooms, don't they? Of course, that is pretty much normal in today's world, too! hahaha

This is a view looking up the staircase to the top floor, I just thought it looked cool.

I kinda like the color of the walls.... don't think it would work in my house, but it is a nice calm color nonetheless.

Again, ornate doorknobs greet you when you walk up to the door. Amazing how many beehives you can discover in Salt Lake!

These were the sisters that took us on our tour. They sang a song at the end of the tour, and we ( Mom and I ) joined in. The song escapes my memory at this time, but I remember the other people on the tour being surprised that we were singing with the sisters. I think we were the only ones there on the tour that were members of the Church.

One of the sisters was from the UK and the other from the Philipines. Nice girls and very humble and knowledgeable, too! Dad spent a few minutes talking with them at the end of our tour, and told them about our link to the pioneers. The girls were very interested in our story and thanked us for sharing it before they had to head back to Temple Square for more mission work. We headed to the Joseph Smith building to take a break before heading home. I absolutely love Utah, can ya tell????

Utah, this is the place 4 me!

Utah...... this is the place.
I often think these words whenever I visit 'home'. Living in Georgia for the past ah-hem 21 years, I still have the feeling of comfort and peace that bekons me to return. Of course, it is still my goal to come home one day. Hopefully sooner than later. Until then, I will relish the times I spend with family and friends and gaze at the photos taken to remind me of where I want to be. This pic of Kaylee was taken the day we visited Temple Square. I thought it was important for her to see the Temple. She hasn't had the opportunities I had to grow up in the Church, and I thought she would love seeing the Temple with her own eyes. I think she really enjoyed herself alot.
Full moon rising. Dad, JD, Mom, Katie and I spent an evening watching the moon rise over the mountain to the East of Mona.... I can't remember the last moon I saw come up 'over the mountain'..... here in Ga, it is already high in the sky before you can see it. (because of all the trees)

this pic of Mom and Dad was taken at Lagoon. They have both lost a lot of weight, and they look too cute for words! Check out Mom's overalls..... Dad has wanted her to get a pair for a long time.... I was able to talk her into it! heeheheee.....

This is a night shot of the Heber Creeper. Both Dad and I have been practicing our night photography skills lately. This shot paid off...

We rode the Creeper on the 24th for "Fiddlers and Fireworks". I LOVED it!!!

Here is a shot of Mom, Dad and new daddy, JD.... hard to believe my baby brother has a baby of his own!

Barn shot taken from the train. I wanna live here!

Park City was nice to visit, also. I haven't been up there since I was a child... too long ago!

Of course, you can't leave the canyon without a pic of Bridal Veil Falls! This was taken from the car going about 50mph, so it might look a bit fuzzy, but if you know Utah, you can imagine how pretty it is! Definately a place to bring my hubby when we finally make the move!

Of course, there are always rainbows in Utah.... even when there are fires! Yes, that is smoke from the Salt Creek canyon fire with a rainbow over it. I took this one from Mom and Dad's driveway. This gives you an idea of how close the fire was to Nephi and Mona.

This is Mom and Dad's house. Totally paid for with the money from the sale of the house in Cali... I am soooo grateful they are out of there! Now, I have a place to come if... no, WHEN I leave Georgia!!!

A story about a baby

This is a story about two parents.... they have a beautiful son. He is the center of their world. He commands attention nearly every hour of every day.... and it is easy to see why ! This young man has both of his parents wrapped around his pinky finger like no other parent has been wrapped!

In his young life, this little guy has been many places and has seen many things. He has been to a rodeo, been camping, to a theme park, has ridden a merry-go-round, had a fun time on an ATV, been on the Heber Creeper, seen fireworks, and has been held by his favorite Auntie!

His Daddy loves him soooo much! AND his daddy is a great big help, too! He gave this young one his very first bath at the hospital, and he does diapers, changes clothes, and will occasionally take his turn feeding. ( Mommy saves some breast milk for him!)

Mommy is teaching Little John some bad habits.... like sticking out his tongue, tooting, whining, and complaining! LOL..... j/k Katie! Ya know I love ya!

Baby John smells so good because he gets baths everyday! (and you should see him get 'slickered up' with baby lotion!) Most of the time, he will complain, but you can see he does have some fun in the bathtub... er, sink!

After a long, hard day, Mommy takes a break, and Daddy spends some quality time with his son. It won't be long before both are asleep!
