In a tropical state of mind

I know I am slow to get this up and I apologize to those of you who have been waiting... so here they are- some of the pics taken during our cruise to the Bahamas. I have been threatend with bodily harm if I post certain photos taken during one of the more exciting nights, so in order to protect myself, I have chosen to not put these up at this time. I still reserve the right to use them in the future if needed, so you may want to stay tuned... roflol!

It was Rachel's birthday, so we celebrated by going on a cruise!

Sovereign of the Seas at port on Nassau, Bahamas. It is the oldest ship in the fleet and will retire at the end of this month.
I took this one at Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean's private island... pretty water, huh!
Sharon is ready to shop at the straw market... this is her first trip outside the States and first time on a cruise ship... and as you can plainly see, she is having a fun time!

...and here is our Boss... the man, the legend (in his own mind) HAHA!! Dr. DeMercy and Tammy are fun to work with and they treat their staff very well and treat us to trips each year when we accomplish our yearly goals... we have only missed one year in the seven I have been with the team!


This is the closest I could find to the color of the waters in the Caribbean... so hard to describe, so I just took a pic! Isn't it pretty????

Hoped you enjoyed our cruise as much as we did! And I didn't even get sunburned... well, at least not where I put sunblock! So I missed a couple of areas, give me a break!

Who's got gas?

So I go on vacation to the Bahamas for a weekend, safely away from Hurricaine Ike, and get back to Atlanta only to find that there is a "problem" with the gas supply. Well, to be honest, it's more like a "crisis"... there is no gas to be found! Well, maybe that isn't being completely honest, but the stations that do have gas have hour-long waits and some stations are rationing.





I tried several stations here in my town to no avail...

I tried all different kinds of stations...

.... but no one seems to have any gas!

Everyone has taken down the fuel prices and we are at our vehicles' mercy...

Can we make it until the tankers bring in more gas???

Govenor Sonny Perdue has asked for an emergency waiver. Apparently, we here in the Atlanta area are only allowed "clean" fuel... due to the high pollution in our great city.


We need "dirty" fuel.

Heck, I'd take a horse and buggy! ( maybe the Amish aren't so naive) !!

I might just have to bring along my 6-foot garden hose so I can siphon a bit from the car parked next to me at Walmart.... (did I say that out loud?)

Well, I guess if I do run out of gas, I can always just stay home (which is what I have always wished I could do anyway) Hey! This fuel-shortage thing isn't such a bad idea afterall!



Now I might just get around to getting those cruise pictures posted on this blog.... WA-HOO!!!

Well, I am off to the Caribbean for the weekend... ah, the life of the rich and famous...
Just kidding..
Actually, our wonderful boss is taking our office on a cruise tomorrow to the Bahamas and we are all planning on having a fantastic time! Of course, there will be lots of photos to share on my return, so get ready for a more interesting blog next time!
Here's hoping Ike stays to the West and Josephine keeps sleeping head on the pillow!
As they say, It's 5 o'clock somewhere... and I think it's in the Caribbean!

End of Summer

Well, summer vacation is over now and school will start in 3 days. I have to say, I love it when all the kids are out of school. Traffic for me is sheer bliss. I can leave for work at 6:20 and be to work by 7am. Starting Monday, I will have to leave between 5:55 and 6 to be at work by 7 just to get to work before everyone else and their neighbor is out on the road too. I have to travel 20 miles and it is all on a 2-lane road. No way to pass because of the hills and curves... and forget going the speed limit ! Okay, enough whining.

A couple of weeks ago, Roger and I went down to visit with his family in Albany Ga. (It is pronounced all-BENY ) Not like the yankees say the New York city! I was corrected by Roger's Mom many years back. lol. She was a true Southerner! Roger's sister, Bonnie, drove up from Florida and we were able to visit with them for a couple of days. It is nice to see family. I enjoy times spent with them.




This is Roger's great-niece, Chloe. She loved having her picture taken. She would look at each shot as it was taken, and say, "aaaww, that's nice!" She is a real cutie!

This is Roger's Brother, Stan and his wife Linda. We stayed at their home in Albany.

It was difficult to get a pic of this little guy. He is Roger's great-nephew. Alex. He reminds me of the actor, Haley-Joel Osmet. You know, the "I see dead people" kid? lol. Alex wouldn't hold still for nothing. I had to sneak pics of him when he slowed down enough to catch! He and Chloe are cousins. They are only like a few months apart.


It is rare to get Roger in a picture. He won't smile when the camera is pointed at him, unless it is a goofy smile, or he has to be pulling faces or doing something to distract those in the pic with him. So I was glad to get this one of he and his sister, Bonnie. She is the oldest sib and has always been a mother-figure for Roger. She remembers alot about his childhood that he likes to hear about.

I just wish I could be closer to my family at times like these. Maybe one day.

So Roger and I volunteered at the Bishop's Storehouse last week while I was on vacation. My friend Natalie's Parents are in charge there and we thought we'd step up to the plate for once. It was a fun time. I was amazed at the amount of boxes that are stored there. Apparently, this storehouse supplies other areas in Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, the Carolinas and is a hub for Emergency Response here in the Southeast. Supplies are shipped to disaster areas such as New Orleans during Katrina, and currently to Iowa and areas downstream on the Mississippi because of the floods.










The cannery is also located here. There are so many things that can be canned here for personal food storage. The only stipulation is that you must can it yourself. (which is not difficult, I have done it myself) Everything is very organized and easy to find. There is alot of good work being done there.




The warehouse itself is huge. Brother Kennedy (Natalie's Dad) took us on a tour and said that usually there was alot more there, but that alot had bee recently sent out to the areas along the Mississippi for relief. Things like generators, hygiene kits, water and food. He said that the warehouse is usually stocked from floor to ceiling, and that it would be again in a couple of weeks.


I learned alot and enjoyed being there to help. Natalie's sister, Monica, and her husband, Larry volunteer there twice a week. Because of the work they have been doing and volunteering for, Larry was recently baptized into the Church. He had a strong feeling that the work that is being done there was a good work and felt he wanted to be a part of it. He is a great person and is growing in faith as he continues to work there.
